Patchwork can it be art?

November 23, 2008 by Bibizora · 4 comments

Following the negative response he made to me this question by a jury of professional artists (painter, sculptor, artist, photographer). I would like if this is really necessary you can prove otherwise.

Here is a selection of links to artists, and I emphasize the word, which more than deserve their appelation. Like the painting is not confined to the decoration and utility, sometimes craft, sometimes art. The patchwork is not just for Christmas markets (and I love the Christmas markets.) Yes patchwork can be an art! ! That ... should have its rightful place among others.

and now admire these works ...

dijeanne Cevaal, one of my favorite artists:

So? ... What is your answer to you?

A quilt can be worthy of a painting not? ... If you're convinced, thank you to spread the word! :)

    Hello
Firstly I just discovered your blog is superb I will return with great pleasure to be back at leisure lazarder
A quilt can be worthy of a painting? Good question!
At first glance it is logical and easy and tempting to answer: YES! but after mature reflexions and a lot of hindsight, the most reasonable answer is: NO!
the approach is totally different between quilt and painting and it is mainly two different worlds.
Too many people have a simplistic perception of art as it is today
I practice both for me and the two non-nothing in common, just the creation and yet here too we could discuss ad infinitum ...
    Good day

    Hello Sacha

First I wanted to thank you for your compliments on my blog and especially your message that allows me to continue a little debate on a subject that fascinates me! I am delighted.

Could you describe your approach a little patch and paint? I'd like to understand what is so different.
For my part I draw a little, I did some testing in painting, but not be not enough to understand what you mean.

But if art was making sense. Allow to see, and to show what we have ourselves seen, hearing the essence of the world?

Recreate the world with his personal filter somehow. In this context the patch or paint are only means of expression, the language used to communicate meaning we perceived our little universe. Hence for me the lack of boundary between painting, patch, sculpture ...

But few have been what you call a simplistic definition of art? I await your lighting the top.

    I'll check out your blog!
    Good evening A +

    Thank you very much cocopatch!

My site is made with Wordpress, a free blog publishing software.

If you really want, dis-card to the water .. at first it really requires a huge effort to "drop" was afraid of how it goes, it is censorship ... we "waste" of fabric .. but then it is gratifying to have achieved a truly personal work ... and sometimes the result is satisfactory as a bonus! :-)
